This is a great thought from A.W. Tozer. Let me know what you think about it…
“Have you noticed how much praying for revival has been going on of late- and how little revival has resulted? I believe the problem is that we have been trying to substitute praying for obeying, and it simply will not work. To pray for revival while ignoring the plain precept laid down in Scripture is to waste a lot of words and get nothing for our trouble. Prayer will become effective when we stop using it as a substitute for obedience.” A. W. Tozer
It is a great thought. A convicting one. I fail in this area.
A great point of discussion, though – I know several great men of God, mostly pastors, who have been praying for revival for years. These men are the real deal, not just doing the talk, but the walk as well.
I imagine these men are seeing revival in their own lives, but what does it take for a church to see true revival? Or a community? I suppose it goes back to each individual being willing to obey and submit themselves completely to God.
I’ve always heard it taught and preached that a true revival will start in the home, in the hearts of each individual believer. It is so true, and I believe it is the lack of this that results in the lack of a wide-spread revival.
Thanks for sharing this quote. I need revival in my own life before any of what I just said will matter to anyone else.
