CONNECTING THE MISSIONS-HEARTED

TO THE MISSION FIELD
We hope that God uses these updates to challenge you to do more for the cause of world missions
This past Friday, Chile registered over 9,000 new COVID cases in one day. It’s a grim record in a country that has been lauded for being 4th in the world in vaccination rates, and 1st in Latin America. Chile has given at least one dose of the vaccine to almost 40% of its population, but has seen an alarming surge in cases. Some believe it could be due to restrictions being loosened too early, allowing domestic and international travel, as well as the presence of new COVID strains from Brazil and the UK.

Now Chile’s borders have been locked down from April 5-May 5. No Chilean citizens, residents, or foreigners are permitted to enter or leave the country. Over 80% of the country is back in strict lockdown that includes a nightly curfew and restricted retail activity. Only essential items, like food, medicine, and personal hygiene products, can be bought or sold. Breaking lockdown rules can result in fines or jail time. People are allowed to be outside for a limited time in the morning hours for exercise and can request permissions twice a week to buy essential goods.

Pray for Chile. Pray for the churches and pastors there to remain faithful and strong, as some have only had 4 in-person services this year. Many are continuing on with services, meetings, and discipleship lessons online. Pray for open doors to share the gospel through creative ways while in lockdown. And pray for Chile to open its borders in a month’s time.
