We hope that God uses these updates to challenge you to do more for the cause of world missions

The Word of God is “quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword.” So it was in the case of Carlos Fernandez, who came to Faith Baptist Church seeking the truth about God. He had been raised in an apostolic/Pentecostal church, but upon reading his Bible, Carlos believed that he should be baptized by immersion. When he mentioned this to the pastor, he was told he spoke like a Baptist. Carlos wasn’t sure what a Baptist was, so he decided to go to a youth event at Faith Baptist to discover more.

I first met Carlos at this youth meeting. After the service, he had so many questions–from eternal security, to speaking in tongues, to what the Bible has to say about female pastors. Soon after, Carlos and I started getting together to study the Bible every week. He had a voracious appetite to learn more about the God’s Word, and I could hardly give him a book to read on a certain subject before he’d return with it completed and ready for discussion. Carlos truly embodied the Bible verse which states, “Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth…” He wanted to walk in the truth; he just needed to know the way.

It wasn’t long before Carlos expressed a desire to attend Bible college classes, so he enrolled in the Chile Training Center and eventually became part of the first graduating class. It was amazing to see all that God was doing in his life. But Carlos’ story doesn’t end there. Next week, I’ll share how God led him to where he is now and the unforeseen event that changed everything for him.
