CONNECTING THE MISSIONS-HEARTED

Today is Assumption Day, a Catholic tradition commemorating Mary’s supposed bodily ascension into heaven. While most in Chile will observe this holiday by catching up on sleep, spending time with family, or shopping, a faithful few will go to mass, light candles, and pray to the “Queen of Heaven.”

Jesus knew humanity’s tendency to revere created beings, which is why, when a woman blesses Mary for bearing and nurturing Christ in Luke 11:27, He replied, “Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.” Jesus redirects our attention to His Word, which is “the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…” (Romans 1:16).

Pray for Chile and for many other Catholic nations, whether they faithfully or casually commerate Assumption Day. The truths they need are found in the Bible and not in the false traditions of man.
