While Mother’s Day is celebrated on different days and months in countries across Latin America, Chile celebrates Mother’s Day at the same time as the US. Many of the churches in Chile did something special to commemorate moms and invite visitors to celebrate the day with us. Liberty Baptist in Santiago had a special breakfast served by the men and saw several first-time visitors. Omega Baptist gave special gifts to all the moms present. And the kids of Liberty Baptist in Parral gave a presentation and sang for their moms.

Josh, Andrew, and I were able to spend Mother’s Day with Lori at our sending church. Before leaving for church, we FaceTimed Katie, who is in Nigeria, on a missions internship. What a wonderful day we shared together!

Lori is a remarkable person. She is a bright ray of gladness in our family. In addition to being a superb homemaker and cook, she is a counselor who is always ready to give nuggets of wisdom to the kids as they navigate these pivotal transitions into adulthood. More important than her words is her example. Her eyes are placed on eternity, and her life reflects the crucified life of Galatians 2:2.

This year, she watched through a screen as her oldest rides in a car in Nigeria on her way to a Bible study. At the end of the year, we’ll board a plane back to Chile with only our youngest. Little by little, we are emptying the nest. These times aren’t the easiest, but they offer yet another opportunity for Lori to love the kids in new ways, show them how to love Jesus, and remain faithful as the path of life continues forward.

Katie, Josh, Andrew and I echo the sentiment of the writer of Proverbs, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, But thou excellest them all.”

Thank you, Lori, for your love and care. Thank you for being a wonderful mother to our three kids. Thank you for being a spiritual mother to so many. Happy Mother’s Day!
