September is one of the most festive times of the year in Chile. The country’s Independence Day celebrations, known as the Fiestas Patrias, officially take place on September 18 and 19, but the festivities often begin earlier and continue well beyond the official holidays.

This past week, the churches joined in the celebration by hosting special services and activities for their congregations. Many people wore traditional Chilean clothing, and the services were followed by fellowship, traditional Chilean foods and desserts, and friendly competition. Everyone had fun with sack races, tug-of-war, traditional-dress contests, and even competitions to see who had made the best pebre, a popular Chilean condiment. We were especially thankful for the many visitors who joined the churches for these celebrations.

We praise the Lord for the testimony of these churches and for the privilege of serving Him here in Chile!
